Client: Town of Canmore, Alberta, Canada.
Type of project: Conceptual Design
Build: 2017
The town of Canmore, Alberta, Canada, set the bar high for an active sustainable mobility system. For this, inspiration often comes from the Netherlands. I have assisted the town on many smaller and bigger transformations in public space, from complete streets, intersections to bike routes and activity streets.
Spring Creek Drive is a collector road in downtown Canmore. Future developments demand an upgrade in car-, bike and pedestrian facilities. The recommendations for this street I provided were used by the city to push innovation towards a road width 5,7 m, roll over curbs, raised unidirectional bicycle lanes along both sides, midblock crossings for cyclists and pedestrians on a raised bump and a new type of intersection with Main Street called ‘the continuous sidewalk’. Besides infrastructure there is ampel space for landscaping with boulders and green between parts of the car lane and cycle/pedestrian infrastructure. The touch and feel of the street is very Dutch, with alone the impressive mountain range in the background giving away the real location. I worked on this project while in service of Mobycon.
