Client: Municipality of Teylingen, the Netherlands
Type of project: Conceptual design
Year: 2017-2018
The route Oranje Nassaulaan – Herenweg – Oosteinde connects the provincial road with highway A44 and cuts through the village of Warmond. In order to increase the liveability in the village and the safety for cyclists and pedestrians, I have completely redesigned the route, while in of consultancy company Mobycon. Incorporating input from the extensive stakeholder engagement, I have made conceptual designs for all three road segments. In all of these segments – but mainly in the village centre – former car centric design was turned around to a design where cars are ‘guests’ and cycling gets a prominent position, both physically and mentally. For this, a bicycle street layout was chosen where cyclists can make use of the whole (3,5 m wide) right of way and cars are discouraged to overtake. The streets are due for reconstruction in 2021.
