Dubai is unfolding its ambitions to become a more sustainable city. Part of this transformation is the increasing attention to the bicycle. Even though the hot climate would suggest otherwise, there certainly are great possibilities for cycling in the compact city, where distances are not overly long and gradients are pretty much absent. I am asked to inspire the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) with a presentation on the holistic Dutch approach in road design, focused around safe, direct and comfortable cycling infrastructure and traffic calming in neighborhoods.
